Based in London and Norwich. Muneerah Yate (born 1994) is a British-Muslim artist who is inspired by her dual Iranian and English heritage. Muneerah continues to make and sell Arabic and Farsi calligraphy, which she has done for over ten years now. Her practice is socially engaged and multidisciplinary: including paintings, sculptures, moving image and sound, as well as performance. Her work is heavily driven by a relentless fascination in the effects of societal and cultural norms on the human experience, with a specific focus on using art to facilitate human connection and better communication. She is passionate about combining her creativity with a desire to help others less fortunate. Muneerah has performed at Wysing Arts Centre and has been mentored by many artists connected to the Wysing space, including: Soheila Sokhanvari, Harold Offeh, Joey Holder, Jill McKnight, Amanprit Sandhu and John Bloomfield. She has also taken part in various Hospital Rooms’ projects, became NUA SU Change Maker 2019, and her work has been featured in various group exhibitions and presentations since 2011. The artist continues to grow her practice by gaining a degree in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA).
